“It is with great sadness that Continental Outdoor Media acknowledges the death of the Father of our Nation, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. We convey our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to Madiba’s family and to the Nation,” says Barry Sayer Executive Chairman of Continental Outdoor Media.
As a gesture in these dark hours with the great loss of a unique human being, Continental Outdoor Media is paying tribute to Nelson Mandela and showing their respect during this time of mourning by wrapping black ‘arm-bands’ around every upright on every billboard along William Nicol Drive, from Sandton to Fourways. The ‘arm-bands’ have the word ‘Madiba’ printed in yellow on the black flex. In addition, Continental Outdoor Media’s countrywide networks of DigiPosters and DigiPods in airports, malls, medical suites, pubs and restaurants will display the message, “In honour of the Father of our Nation, we will always remember you.”
It is rare that any country in the world is blessed with such a great leader, who is an inspiration to the entire global community. Continental Outdoor Media believes that it is important to remember Madiba’s message of unity in our nation and for us to come together in this time of grief in a spirit of ‘Ubuntu’.
“What a tragic outcome might have befallen us in South Africa had we not enjoyed Madiba’s grace and his calm hand on the tiller as we navigated the turbulent waters of transition,” commented Sayer.
This gesture aims to honour the memory of Madiba, in reflection on the message of hope that South Africa embraced after the 1994 elections, when Nelson Mandela became president of our Country. This symbol of loss also goes out to the youth, to remind them of what an important icon Madiba is to the entire world.
